PETRIBU/QUIZANGA CITY MASTER PLAN

Quizanga, Brasil

The Quizanga Project involves the master-planning of approximately 4,000 hectares (15 square miles) of largely undeveloped agricultural and forest lands some 18km inland from the coastal city of Recife, Brasil. The site is situated around the intersection of the existing BR-408 major arterial road and a new north-south regional ring road. This new intersection and associated infrastructure investments provide the opportunity to consider the site as a new model for sustainable growth and as an alternative to the more common pattern of sprawl on the outskirts of existing conurbations. Furthermore the new transportation network will provide easy access to a new urban territory.

Prakash Pinto, as Principal in Charge and Project Director, focused the team on preparing a vision for a high quality sustainable community—one with a rich variety of housing, office, cultural, and recreational facilities. The concept alternatives look at how best to place and organize development on the site, respond to climate conditions, realize and restore an urban landscape, amplify the project area’s best features, integrate with surrounding areas, and offer world-class community, all organized and supported by innovative sustainable transportation/mobility practices and infrastructure systems.
